About Me:: “With hard work and sacrifice, comes opportunity”.   Rob has been in show business since the age of thirteen. He begun his journey into the entertainment business as a performer appearing in such pieces as The Mickey Mouse Club, Seaquest DSV, and Fortune Hunter. After making his way to Hollywood at the age of twenty, Rob decided to learn as much as he could about the television and film business. “I was always taught early on that in order to be truly passionate about something, you need to understand it from all angles. If you are ever lucky enough to lead a group of people, you need to know how to do their job so that you may help push them further than they ever thought possible.”

In order to learn more about the entertainment business, the next step was to jump behind the camera. At the age of twenty, Rob started doing development work for both Tony Award winning producer Craig Anderson (On Golden Pond, The Ballad of Lucy Whipple) and The Bubble Factory (McHale’s Navy, For Richer or Poorer). From there he also worked in development with such companies as World of Wonder, Harpo Productions, and The Machine.

The next step that Rob would take with his career would bring him to where he is today. “From working in development, I truly learned about story structure. I wanted to help contribute more to the story telling process. I chose editing”

Rob began his editing career by cutting together demo reels for actors, directors, and hosts. On numerous occasions, he was interviewed by Backstage West about the subject. He was even tapped as an expert for author Bonnie Gillespie’s “Self Management for Actors.”

“This was right at the beginning of the digital revolution. It was an excellent time to be an editor, and I wanted to
grow.” Rob and his company Rising Ashes Productions would go on to do work for companies such as The WB, CBS, E! and Bravo. “Since I was able to establish my position in post production early, I was able to form client relationships that have lasted over a decade.”

Rob moved on to working in the visual f/x world on such productions as “The Hulk” and “Peter Pan.” He was a visual f/x editor for the Emmy winning Captive Audience Productions and the current Post Production Supervisor for the Academy Award Winning Drac Studios.

Rob currently instructs beginning editor’s at Video Symphony in Burbank, CA. Video Symphony is the premiere post production training facility specializing in Avid, Final Cut Pro, and Digidesign Protools.

Theories on all the rumors....

With february come and gone as far as Avid's "announcments", the rumor mill has been going into overtime. Here is what I've heard: 1. Avid is buying Final Cut Pro 2. Avid is buying AJA 3. Avid is making a Mojo HD 4. Apple is buying Avid (old) 5. Adobe is buying them all (laughable) Anyone got any predictions about how this will "actually" play out? I normally pay no mind to the rumor mill but it's fun to speculate.

The writer's strike and you...the student

Well the madness is pretty much come to an end. And we are back to business as usual (albeit a little tighter than normal). I've had many of my students ask me how it would affect them as far as job opportunities and I always gave the same answer. It doesn't. Our interview numbers went way up. At my school, I help prepare our students for the real job world that you and I have grown accustomed to working in. In post, I have been working for the past ten years. For the Main PVC site, the idea was to find 10-20 of the best writers out there to cover all aspects of the video market.

For the community section here, the goal was to have the community cover the same but from case studies, user studios, personal reviews, etc. Of course feedback, thoughtful discussion, etc.

Any suggestions?

Kona update for RED

AJA has just released it's version 6 software for the Kona cards. The update is mostly RED oriented. Iy ads Red specific Easy setup and output resolutions. The drivers are now 64 bits, the LUT are available when working in dual-link HD-SDI and performances have been improved. Here is the update: http://www.aja.com/html/support_swd.html

updated personal website

Hi guys, just a quick update. My personal website (www.ilovehue.net) is now up-to-date. I have uploaded a lot of clip I worked on in the past years. Nothing new for the one who went on the old website but still, it's going in the right direction. Most of the 2D is done in MOTION. The low-fi 3D is done with Zaxwerk softwares and the editing work is done in Final Cut. My resume will get updated soon. Shamelessly propoting himself, Mathieu Marano
